Amount of Sleep Required for Children

Exact sleep requirements vary depending on a child's age and lifestyle. For newborns, 16 to 18 hours of sleep is usually adequate, whereas preschoolers require 10 to 12 hours. School-age children and adolescents need nine or more hours of sleep per night.
