Facial masks can help many different skin conditions, including acne, dryness or irritation. Although you can buy facial masks at a supermarket or department store, they often contain harsh chemical ingredients that can irritate or inflame your skin. Fortunately, you can create facial masks at home, using natural ingredients from the grocery or health food store. By applying facial masks that you create yourself, you can sooth and treat your skin, without causing irritation.
Step 1
Create a tea tree oil mask to treat acne breakouts. Tea tree oil is an effective acne-fighting substance you can add to French green clay to make a facial mask. In a small bowl, combine 1 tbsp. of French green clay with two drops of tea tree oil. Mix the substances together well. Spread the facial mask onto your skin, and allow it to dry completely. Rinse off the mask with warm water. Repeat once a week to draw out impurities and to treat active acne breakouts.
Step 2
Make a honey oatmeal mask to sooth irritated skin. Honey and oats contain nourishing vitamins and nutrients, and can sooth irritation on your skin. In a small bowl, combine 1 tbsp. of ground raw oats with 2 tbsp. of honey. Spread the facial mask onto your skin, and allow it to remain on your skin for at least 10 minutes. Wipe off the mask into a trash can, then rinse off your skin well with warm water. Repeat up to three times a week to sooth skin irritations.
Step 3
Use an olive oil mask to hydrate dry, aging skin. Olive oil is a highly emollient and non-comedogenic oil that can hydrate and nourish dry or aging skin, without clogging your pores. Pour 1 tbsp. of olive oil onto your hands, rubbing them together to distribute the oil evenly. Pat the oil onto your skin, avoiding rubbing the skin. Cover the entire facial area, including the skin around the eyes. Allow the olive oil to remain on your skin for at least 15 minutes, then wipe off the oil gently using a soft washcloth. Repeat up to three times a week to hydrate your skin.
