A child's day is often filled with various activities. Cramming into a day things like school, gymnastics, music classes, play dates, sports, chores, family time and homework can be fun and positive, but may also be hard to keep track of and confusing. Children might feel better about the day when there is a clear schedule posted. The visual of a schedule will remind them of tasks, and help them feel good about accomplishing daily goals. The actual making of your child's schedule is easy and can be a fun family project.
Step 1
Make the schedule outline with electrical tape on the dry-erase board. Make enough vertical lines to create sections for each day of the week that will be included. Create horizontal lines and use these sections for time slots. Start the day from when your child wakes up, and end the day at bedtime. Let your child be involved in the color selection and decoration of the board.
Step 2
Talk to your child about what is coming up that week, to get him excited and to ensure that all activities are included. Make time for all activities in the schedule, even school, to give a good visual display of the week. Include relaxing activities for your child, like watching television, and daily chores like homework and cleaning. Ensure that everything is remembered.
Step 3
Fill in the activities on the appropriate section using the dry-erase markers. Use different colors for different types of activities, such as yellow for chores, pink for fun and blue for sports. Use pictures from magazines or drawings for small children who cannot read, so they will be able to view and understand the schedule on their own.
Step 4
Create a duplicate schedule in a weekly planner, if needed, for on-the-go. Take a picture of the master schedule with your child's camera phone, if she has one, so that she can take it with her easily.
