How to Fix a NordicTrack Skier

If you notice the skis are slipping or there is no resistance on your NordicTrack skier, you may not need to call customer service. You can solve some problems such as these by doing a little maintenance on your machine.

Slipping Skis

Step 1

Take a dry, clean towel and wipe up any oil that may be causing the skis to slip.

Step 2

Put a little paint thinner on a dry cloth and wipe off the bottom of the skis.

Step 3

Check the flywheel. Slide the U-bolt cover to the right so you can get to the flywheel. If the two nuts located to the right of the flywheel are loose, tighten them with a wrench. Make sure you tighten them both to the same degree. Be careful not to tighten the nuts too much or you can break the U bolt.

No Resistance

Step 1

Examine the resistance strap that runs between the resistance clamp and the flywheel. Place it back around the flywheel if it has come loose.

Step 2

Tighten the flywheel. Slide the U-bolt cover to the right so you can get to the flywheel.

Step 3

If the two nuts located to the right of the flywheel are loose, tighten them with a wrench. Make sure you tighten them both to the same degree.

Squeaky Rollers

Step 1

Lubricate the rollers if they are squeaking or sticking.

Step 2

Put a drop cloth or some rags under the skier to catch any oil you may drop.

Step 3

Use a drop of light household oil on each side of the front and rear rollers' axles. These are located on the front and rear ends above the wheels. Do not put any oil on the drive rollers near the flywheel.

Inoperative Console

Step 1

Check the console wire. The console wire should be completely plugged into the jack on the upright and the jack located underneath the console.

Step 2

Check the batteries. If the batteries are firmly in place and the console is still not functioning properly, remove the two AA batteries from the back of the console.

Step 3

Put in two new AA batteries. Make sure that they are lined up correctly with the negative and they touch the spring in the battery compartment.
