Adipex Symptoms

Adipex is a stimulant that directs the portion of the brain responsible for controlling appetite. It is prescribed for severely overweight people for short-term use to aid them in their weight-loss efforts. A variety of symptoms may occur while taking this drug, some of which can have serious health repercussions. It is important to know and recognize these symptoms to ensure your well-being.

Common Side Effects

Adipex is accompanied by a host of common, less serious side effects, according to eMedTV. Feeling unusually happy, a condition known as euphoria, is one of the most common side effects of Adipex. However, you could also suffer from the exact opposite condition---dysphoria. This causes a variety of unpleasant feelings to occur. Dry mouth is yet another common side effect, as is hyperactivity. You may suffer from digestive problems such as diarrhea and constipation, or find yourself feeling restless. Moments of dizziness may occur as well. All of these side effects tend to subside shortly after you begin taking the drug. If they persist or become worse, consult your doctor.

Insomnia

While Adipex is prescribed to help patients lose weight, it is a stimulant that does affect the central nervous system, including your brain. For this reason, insomnia is a common side effect reported by many who take this drug. Insomnia is more than the inability to fall asleep. You may also find yourself waking up far too early each morning or waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to go back to sleep. The nights you do sleep, you may still feel as if you haven't slept at all.
You can fight the battle of insomnia while taking Adipex. As recommended by eMedTV, try adjusting your sleeping environment, making it as comfortable as possible. Try not to take a nap past 3 p.m. or eat large meals within two hours of going to bed.

Sex Drive and Impotence

While Adipex may be effective at controlling your appetite, you may experience a change in libido (sex drive). Men who take Adipex have an increased risk of suffering from impotence, a condition that results in the inability to either achieve or maintain an erection. If you find yourself experiencing either of these symptoms, speak to your doctor.

Serious Side Effects

Adipex may cause serious symptoms, and you should speak to your doctor immediately if you experience these. One of these symptoms is tachycardia, a condition that causes a rapid heart rate. This may be an effect of the stimulant in Adipex. Aggressive behavior and feeling agitated are also reason for concern, as are hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that aren't there).

Withdrawal Symptoms

Adipex can be habit forming, as stated by Drugs.com. If you begin to feel as though you need to take more than the prescribed dose, your body may be forming an addiction to this medication. If you have become addicted to Adipex, you may suffer withdrawal symptoms, either when your prescription runs out or when your doctor chooses to take you off the medication. These symptoms include depression and extreme fatigue.
