Applying a facial mask can be helpful in treating many different types of skin problems. A deeply hydrating mask can moisturize and protect dry, aging skin types. An oatmeal-and-honey mask can soothe irritated or inflamed skin. A tea tree clay mask can help clear acne-prone skin. Any of these facial masks can be easily created at home using ingredients that can be found at any grocery or health food store. Using a homemade facial mask can help treat skin problems naturally.
Step 1
Apply a deeply hydrating olive oil mask. Olive oil is a highly emollient oil that is also non-comedogenic, meaning it does not clog the pores. Olive oil can be applied as a mask to moisturize and hydrate dry and aging skin. Spread 1 tbsp. of olive oil onto your face, using your fingertips to massage the oil in deeply for three minutes. Let the oil remain on your skin for an additional 10 minutes. After the time has passed, use a wet washcloth to gently wipe away the olive oil. An olive oil mask can be applied to your face once per day to deeply moisturize your skin.
Step 2
Apply a skin-soothing oatmeal and honey mask. Oatmeal and honey are known for their soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, and can be applied to the skin to calm sensitive skin and facial irritations. Combine 1 tbsp. of ground oats with 2 tbsp. of honey, and spread the mixture onto your face. Allow the mask to remain on skin for at least 15 minutes, then wipe it off into a trash can. Wash off your skin well with warm water. An oatmeal honey mask can be used to soothe irritations up to three times per week.
Step 3
Apply an acne-fighting tea tree clay mask. Tea tree oil is an anti-microbial oil that is effective in killing acne-causing bacteria and drying out acne pustules on the skin. Tea tree oil can be combined with French green clay to create an effective acne mask. Combine 1 tbsp. of French green clay with two drops of tea tree oil, and spread the mask onto your skin with your fingertips. Allow the acne mask to dry onto your skin completely, which usually takes around five minutes, then rinse it off with warm water. A tea tree clay mask can be used to treat acne once per week.
