Anti Aging Cream Ingredients

Aging is an unavoidable process that affects everyone over time. However, new advances in technology have provided the means to at least look younger longer. This has been done through the introduction of carefully mixed anti-aging products, including anti-aging cream. Anti-aging creams provide their benefits through a variety of different active ingredients.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants (such as Coenzyme Q10) are one of the most commonly found ingredients in anti-aging creams. As you age, your body becomes affected by free radicals. Free radicals consist of oxygen that is missing an electron, making it unstable. These free radicals steal electrons from other parts of the body, including important proteins called elastin and collagen, changing their structure. This change in structure causes the collagen and elastin to break down, forming wrinkles. Antioxidants work by neutralizing free radicals in the body, limiting the damage to the body's cells.

Peptides

Peptides are also commonly found in anti-aging creams. Peptides work by penetrating the skin and increasing the production of collagen. This extra collagen helps fill in fine lines and wrinkles by plumping up the skin, making the lines and wrinkles level with the surrounding skin tissue.

Retinol

Retinol can also be found in many anti-aging creams. Retinol is a non-prescription form of retinoids. According to dermatologist Dr. George J. Hruza, MD, retinoids have the ability to temporarily reverse the signs of aging. This is done by renewing skin cell growth and reversing the wrinkles and rough skin associated with photoaging. Photoaging is the premature aging of the skin due to long-term exposure to ultra-violet (UV) radiation.

Hydroxy Acids

Beta and alpha hydroxy acids are also commonly found in anti-aging creams. Hydroxy acids act as a chemical peel on the skin. This helps loosen dead skin cells from the surface of the body. The increase in cell shedding reveals younger smoother skin cells beneath, improving the overall look of the skin.

Kinetin

Kinetin is also found in many anti-aging creams. Kinetin is a plant growth factor used to treat wrinkles on the skin. According to the Mayo Clinic, kinetin is believed to work by keeping the skin moist, while also increasing the natural production of collagen in the skin.
