Tekturna HCT is the brand name of a combination of hydrochlorothiazide and aliskiren that is used in the treatment of hypertension, also known as high blood pressure. Tekturna HCT works by preventing your blood vessels from constricting and by decreasing water levels in your body. The former function is provided by aliskiren and the latter by hydrochlorothiazide, which is a diuretic. Tekturna HCT is a prescription medication administered in pill form.
Serious Side Effects
Tekturna HCT is capable of inducing a variety of serious side effects to those who use it. Consult a doctor immediately if you experience what the Mayo Clinic calls "less common" serious side effects such as vomiting, abnormal weakness, chills, a cough, uncommon tiredness, diarrhea, insomnia, a fever or an overall feeling of illness or discomfort. Other serious side effects may include sweating, headaches, throat soreness, pain in your joints, shivering, appetite loss, a runny nose, nausea or pain in your muscles. Watch for swollen areas that are large and look like hives that may affect you in various parts of your body such as your genitals, face, tongue, eyelids, throat, lips, legs, feet or hands.
Non-Serious Side Effects
Not many temporary and non-serious side effects have been reported from using Tekturna HCT, according to the Mayo Clinic. If they do occur, these side effects may go away as you continue your hypertension therapy. They can include spinning sensations, bodily motion difficulties, stiffness in the muscles, bodily strength decreases or loss and a sensation that either you or your environment is in constant motion. Call your physician if these are too disconcerting and do not go away.
Overdose Side Effects
One pill of Tekturna HCT per day is the standard dose, but your doctor may prescribe more if she thinks it is necessary. If you ingest more Tekturna HCT than recommended, you may have side effects from an overdose that require immediate emergency medical aid. Overdose side effects of Tekturna HCT may include skin wrinkling, heaviness or weakness in your legs, mental confusion, a weak pulse, urine output decreases, trembling, dry mouth, drowsiness, facial swelling, fainting, changes of mood, cramps in the muscles and irritability. Others may include eyes that appear sunken, tingling in the feet or hands, shortness of breath, lightheadedness and breathing rapidly. The most serious potential overdose side effects include a coma or seizures.
