Very sensitive skin is prone to redness, itching, rashes and inflammatory conditions like rosacea. According to the Mayo Clinic, rosacea is a persistent skin disorder that produces dry, small, red and pus-filled bumps or pimples. Very sensitive skin may also be easily irritated by environmental conditions such as wind, pollution, heat and cold. There are both over-the-counter and prescription products available to treat the various symptoms associated with very sensitive skin.
Topical Treatments
Your doctor may recommend a topical medication to help treat rosacea. Some of the more commonly prescribed treatments include antibiotics (metronidazole), tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide and azelaic acid. These products are usually applied to your skin once or twice per day to help reduce redness and inflammation
Sunscreens
Sunscreens and sunblocks with an SPF of 15 or higher may benefit rosacea sufferers, according to SkinCareGuide.com. If sunscreens irritate your skin, zinc or titanium dioxide may also be used to protect very sensitive skin from sun damage and possible rosacea breakouts.
Soaps and Cleansers
Gentle soaps and skin cleansers are recommended for very sensitive skin and rosacea. Products that tend to be less irritating to the skin include Dove, Olay, Basis, Cetaphil Lotion, Oilatum-AD and Aquanil.
Moisturizers
The Mayo Clinic states that thicker moisturizers that don't contain dyes or fragrances are best for people with very sensitive and/or dry skin. Eucerin, Cetaphil and Moisture creams provide a seal over your skin so it can retain moisture.
Oils
If your skin is extremely dry, try slathering on an oil immediately after bathing or showering. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends Neutrogena Light Sesame Oil, Hermal Body Oil, Alpha-Keri Oil or Robathol.
