Side Effects of Fastin

Fastin is one of many brand names for a sympathomimetic appetite suppressant that is used in the early stages of the treatment of obesity. It is a prescription drug administered as a capsule or pill that can help reduce your appetite. The Mayo Clinic reports this effect tends to be reduced as you continue taking Fastin, so it cannot be used for long-term appetite control.

Serious Side Effects

Fastin may produce potentially serious side effects in some people. Seek your doctor's advice immediately if you experience such rare serious side effects as pain in the chest, breathing difficulties, a decrease in your exercise abilities, foot swelling, fainting or lower leg swelling. Other serious side effects should be explained to your physician as soon as you can. The most common of these is hypertension or high blood pressure. Rare or less common serious side effects, according to the Mayo Clinic, include abnormal bleeding or bruising, urination pain or difficulties, abnormal excitement, a fast heart rate called tachycardia, uncontrollable activity of your body, an irregular heart rate called arrhythmia, the belief people can hear what you think and fever with throat soreness. Others may include sensory, auditory or visual hallucinations, the belief people control you or watch you, severe headaches, hives or a rash, a numb sensation on a single side of your body or face and depression.

Non-Serious Side Effects

Taking Fastin may cause you to experience non-serious side effects that should be temporary. If they do not disappear as you continue treatment, call your doctor. The more common non-serious side effects from Fastin include insomnia, constipation, shaking or trembling of the body, dizziness, pain or cramps in the stomach, lightheadedness, nervousness, mouth dryness, restlessness, euphoria, headaches, vomiting, irritability or nausea. There also are common temporary side effects that may occur as the effect of the stimulant recedes. These include bodily weakness, tiredness, drowsiness and depression. Other rare or less common non-serious side effects may include a taste that is unpleasant, blurry vision, reduced sexual ability or sexual desire changes, sweating increases, diarrhea, urinating more often or with more output and drowsiness.

Overdose Side Effects

Taking more than the recommended dose of Fastin may cause overdose side effects that are severe. The most serious of these include a coma, confusion, seizures, hallucinations, panic sensations, hostility that could lead to your attacking someone and rapid breathing. Others may include severe insomnia, personality changes, activity that is excited and excessive, severe irritability, severe mental illness that appears as schizophrenia and a disease of the skin. You also may experience arrhythmia, a fever, severe vomiting and nausea, severe diarrhea or hypotension or hypertension.
