The Best Shampoos for Hair Loss

Many shampoos claim to help stop hair loss at its root and restore it to a thick, healthy appearance. Not all of them were created equally, and some may never fulfill their advertised promises; however, a few brands could be worth trying out.

Nioxin

Nioxin shampoo can be used on its own or as part of a specialized hair care system. The shampoo, also called a cleanser, contains a volumizing solution that also removes residue. Moreover, it claims to remove dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a natural androgenic hormone in the body that is the primary hair loss culprit. The shampoo in itself is expensive, and buying it as part of a hair care system is even more expensive. However, you may see the best results using the full system because Nioxin offers eight different systems that are formulated to meet different hair types. Most of its scalp treatments contain SPF and hair-healthy nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins.

Tricomin

Tricomin is a special shampoo because its main active ingredient is a triamino complex, which showed positive clinical results in improving hair structure and reinforcing hair roots. Although the company opted to release the shampoo as a cosmetic rather than an FDA-approved hair growth tool, you may notice additional hair growth in addition to extra body and sheen in your existing hair. The cost is above moderate, and it is even higher if you want to use the conditioner and spray by the same manufacturer. However, if you can afford it, it's worth a shot to use it as a supplement to other hair treatments such as Rogaine.

Therapy-G

Therapy-G is a moderately priced antioxidant shampoo that was formulated to remove DHT and clear sebum from the scalp. It also contains Tryptobond Guard, a patented ingredient that attaches to each shaft of hair to protect the hair from UV damage and other potential damage such as breakage. Finally, Therapy-G stimulates blood circulation to the scalp in order to build body in the hair. You can purchase the shampoo by itself or use it in conjunction with the same brand's follicle stimulator, conditioner, volumizing treatment, design gel, molding adhesive, hairspray and vitamin.

Revivogen

Revivogen Bio-Cleansing Shampoo contains ingredients that improve the condition of the hair and scalp by removing DHT and sebum from the scalp. While it offers nourishment and moisture to the hair, Revivogen.com claims that its shampoo wasn't formulated to work by itself. The shampoo was intended to work in conjunction with the full Scalp Therapy formula. However, customers on review sites have positive things to say about the shampoo on its own. "I can honestly say that this shampoo has stopped my hair loss," says one customer review on Folica.com. The shampoo on its own is moderate to high in price, but the whole scalp therapy will run about four times as much.

Progaine 2-in-1

Progaine shampoo is a low-cost choice from the makers of Rogaine. It also has the bonus of being shampoo plus conditioner in one bottle, which ends up saving you more money. It removes residue from the scalp and contains natural vitamins, proteins and extracts to add body, shine and texture to the hair without weighing it down. Progaine was formulated for Rogaine users to supplement their existing treatments, but it contains no Rogaine treatment.
