The hair can thin as a result of many factors, including aging, heredity, illness and even stress. When your hair is thinning, it can affect how you feel about yourself. There are a few over-the-counter products that are designed to improve hair thickness, but these products are often expensive. Luckily, hair can be encouraged to grow back and become thicker by following a few methods that stimulate the hair follicles, enabling more blood and oxygen to reach the scalp to help develop new hair cells.
Step 1
Stimulate the hair follicles by giving yourself a vigorous scalp massage. Pour 1 tbsp. of vitamin E oil into a small bowl, and mix 5 drops of tea tree oil in it. Using your fingers, spread the oils on your scalp, and use your fingers to massage the oil in. Move your fingers in circular motions, applying a deep, consistent pressure. Once you have massaged the scalp with your fingers for five minutes, massage the scalp with a prong-style hairbrush. Move the brush in circular motions for five more minutes, making sure that you cover the entire area of your scalp. Focus on the areas that are the most thin. Wash your hair as you normally would. Give yourself a scalp massage once a day to encourage new hair growth.
Step 2
Bring more blood flow to the hair follicles by vibrating the scalp. Purchase a vibrating massager at any department or health food store. Make sure that the massager has new batteries in it so that it runs at maximum capacity. Place the massager on your scalp, and gently move it around your head for at least 10 minutes. Try to avoid applying too much pressure. The vibrations from the massager will increase circulation to the hair follicles without needing to press the device into the scalp. Apply vibration to the scalp once a day to increase blood flow to the hair follicles.
Step 3
Prevent follicle suffocation by cleaning your scalp with a clarifying shampoo. A clarifying shampoo will remove dead scalp skin and debris that could decrease oxygen to the hair follicles. Wet your hair thoroughly and apply a quarter-sized amount of clarifying shampoo to the scalp. Use your fingers to massage the shampoo into the scalp, creating a rich lather. After two minutes, rinse off your hair thoroughly with water. Use a clarifying shampoo once a day to keep the scalp free of dead skin.
