Trying to conceive is an exciting time for parents-to-be. The waiting period between conception and having a positive pregnancy test may be up to 2 weeks. Although some highly sensitive tests claim to detect pregnancy as early as 5 days before a missed period, most women will test positive closer to the date of their expected period. There are some physical signs and symptoms that you might notice prior to having a positive test.
Breast Pain and Soreness
You may experience breast pain and soreness prior to missing your period. This can be comparable to, or worse than, the breast soreness that experienced before your menstrual cycle. You might also notice changes in your breasts. The areola may become darker in color and larger in size. Some women also notice the appearance of veins on breast tissue.
Nausea
Some women experience nausea in the very early stages of pregnancy. It may be worse in the morning hours. This is believed to happen due to the increase in pregnancy hormones, especially estrogen. This hormone slows the passage of food through the gastrointestinal tract and also decreases the amount of acid (hydrochloric) in your stomach. This may lead to nausea. Nausea will usually subside by the end of the first trimester.
Fatigue and Lightheadedness
Fatigue and lightheadedness are common signs of early pregnancy. You may notice that you seem more tired than usual. Some women might begin to feel lightheaded around this time. In a pregnant state, your body is channeling a lot of energy to the uterus and growing fetus. Lightheadedness may be due to rising pregnancy hormones.
