Pregnancy is such an exciting time for new parents. In the beginning of a pregnancy, there are certain signs and symptoms that a woman may experience. It is important to know that not all women will feel the same symptoms. Each pregnancy may also be different from the last. A woman who had very strong symptoms with her first pregnancy may feel very different during her second pregnancy.
Nausea
Nausea, with or without vomiting, is a sign of early pregnancy. This happens due to the rising pregnancy hormones, estrogen and progesterone, according to the Mayo Clinic. If you experience severe vomiting you may be at risk for dehydration. You should contact your provider immediately. For most women, eating a bland diet and the avoidance of spicy foods may help alleviate nausea. Certain decaffeinated teas with peppermint or ginger are also known to help with nausea.
Breast Pain and Soreness
You might experience breast pain and soreness in early pregnancy. Your body is preparing your breasts for feeding your new baby. You may also notice a change in the appearance of your breasts. The areola may darken and appear larger. Some women notice the appearance of veins beneath their breast tissue. Wearing a supportive bra is recommended during this time.
Cramping/Bleeding
Some women experience mild uterine cramping very early in their pregnancy. This might be due to the embryo implanting into the uterine wall and the stretching of the uterus to accommodate the growing fetus. Implantation bleeding can also occur in some women. This usually occurs around the time of your first missed period and happens as the embryo begins to nestle and implant itself into the uterine wall. Not all women experience implantation bleeding.
Fatigue
Many newly pregnant women will experience fatigue. You may seem much more tired than usual. It is important to get enough rest during this time as your body is utilizing energy for your growing baby.
