How to Thicken Your Hair

If you've tried every hairstyle and your hair still falls limp and flat, consider styling products and other hairstyling tools that can make your hair appear thicker. If you've never been able to use conditioner because it makes your hair look thin, greasy and lifeless, consider using a conditioner that can restore life into your hair and make your friends wonder how they can get their hair looking as thick and full as yours.

Step 1

Condition your hair correctly. Use a conditioner that's made for fine, limp hair, such as L'Oréal Professionnel Volume Expand Volumizing Cream Conditioner, suggests Cosmopolitan magazine. When applying the conditioner, avoid the roots and focus on the ends. This way the conditioner won't weigh down your locks.

Step 2

Add hair extensions. Salon hair extensions are applied with a thin layer of glue, making extensions virtually unnoticeable--even to you. Because most hair extensions are made out of human hair, the extensions can be styled exactly the way your normal hair can.

Step 3

Use a laser comb to stimulate follicles. According to Washingtonian magazine, the HairMax LaserComb uses laser technology to stimulate hair growth and make hair grow in thicker. If you can afford the hefty price tag, this device may be worth a shot.

Step 4

Take a hair-thickening oral supplement. According to Marie Claire magazine, salon owners have been passing hair-thickening concoctions such as Viviscal Rene Furterer Vitalfan and Philip Kingsley PK4Hair. Hair supplements contain hair-thickening ingredients such as omega-3 fatty acids and caffeine to give your hair a boost.

Step 5

Color your hair. According to Washingtonian Magazine, dyeing your hair makes each hair follicle 1/3 thicker. Before slathering on the dye, however, be aware that dyeing hair frequently can make hair become brittle and damaged over time.

Tips and Warnings

  • Use a quarter-sized amount of conditioner after washing your hair.
