Unfortunately, wrinkles are a natural part of aging. The skin loses its elasticity as it ages, and lines become more pronounced. Sun exposure and smoking can cause premature wrinkling on the face. You may first notice wrinkles around your eyes and mouth. You have several options to reduce deep wrinkles around the eyes. Keep in mind that you may require multiple treatments since nothing stops the continued development of wrinkles. Meet with your doctor to go over potential treatment options.
Step 1
Apply a daily moisturizer to your face with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher. Moisturizers can help keep the skin supple while the sunscreen can prevent further damage. When the skin is dehydrated, the deep wrinkles around the eyes will look more pronounced. Keep yourself well hydrated as well by drinking six to eight glasses of water.
Step 2
Use a topical retinoid to get rid of deep wrinkles around the eyes. Retinoids are derived from vitamin A and can reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Product examples include Retin-A, Renova and Avage. Apply the topical solution directly to the wrinkles on a daily basis.
Step 3
Receive injections around the eyes. Injectable fillers, such as collagen, can be used to smooth out deep wrinkles around the eyes. Botox prevents the muscles from tightening and can hide the appearance of wrinkles at the corner of the eyes. Repeat injections are needed to maintain results.
Step 4
Discuss surgical procedures used to get rid of deep wrinkles around the eyes with your doctor. A plastic surgeon or cosmetic dermatologist can recommend procedures to treat eye wrinkles. Dermabrasion involves the use of an abrasive tool to sand down the surface of the skin to get rid of wrinkling. Laser resurfacing consists of using highly concentrated light energy to promote collagen production at the site of the wrinkled skin. If you decide to get a face lift, excess fat and skin are removed to tighten the face.
