How to Tighten Up Loose Skin After Losing Weight

Rapid weight loss can result in loose or sagging skin. While you may be tempted to seek out plastic surgery to remove their excess skin, you can tighten up your loose skin after losing weight just by making some lifestyle changes. Plan on the process of tightening your skin to take at least as long as it took for you to lose the weight. While your skin is elastic, and can snap back into shape, it needs time to achieve these goals. Don't even consider plastic surgery to correct loose skin until at least two years have passed since your weight loss.

Step 1

Drink plenty of water every day to stay hydrated and to keep your skin supple. Drinking at least eight glasses of water a day helps to get rid of excess water in your system, which could be causing bloating or a lack of skin elasticity.

Step 2

Work out with weights each day you exercise. Cardio is good, and helps burn calories, but you need to work on toning your muscles if you want to get rid of sagging skin. By building muscle, you help fill in the gap between your muscle and the skin, reducing the looseness.

Step 3

Use moisturizers and creams to firm up your skin, keep it hydrated and make it more supple. Anything that contains collagen, soy or vitamin E can help in firming up your skin and reducing sagging.

Step 4

Use an exfoliating scrub every day to remove dead skin cells and to improve circulation to your skin. Improved circulation encourages new collagen production and smoother skin overall.

Step 5

Eat healthy foods filled with vitamins and minerals. The staples like fruits and vegetables are a must, but you can also take a vitamin E supplement to help nourish your skin. Other supplements include fish oil for the omega-3 fatty acid content, which is vital for restoring elasticity to your skin.
