Baby slings have been part of parenting for centuries. Baby slings have many uses including nursing, holding, nurturing and napping. Many parents like the fact that you can keep your child in the baby sling once he falls asleep and gently remove the sling without waking him. Most baby slings come as either a soft pouch-like sling or one with a hard frame.
Step 1
Put the baby sling over your shoulder with the adjustment strap in the front.
Step 2
Pull the baby sling over your head to the opposite shoulder and open the area where your baby will be placed.
Step 3
Lift your baby into the sling, making sure there is fabric is on both sides of the baby.
Step 4
Adjust the strap to a comfortable position for both you and your child.
Tips and Warnings
- Baby slings are very useful for nursing. The cradle position is the best, as you are able to use your free arm to cradle the baby. Most slings have extra material for this purpose, and you can gently cover your baby so you are not exposed if nursing in public. Keep in mind that as long as you are giving the child time to be down on his own to learn to roll over or sit up, there is no reason he cannot be in a baby sling for three to four hours a day.
- Never use a hard frame carrier as a car seat, as it will tip over and does not provide the safety a child needs while riding in a vehicle.
