How to Treat Wrinkles Under the Eyes

Wrinkles are folds or creases that can appear on your skin. They commonly appear around your mouth, forehead and under the eyes. Wrinkles are commonly caused by overexposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays and the natural aging process. Wrinkles, especially those under the eyes, affect both men and women of all ethnicities. They can make you look old, especially if you have many under your eyes and they are noticeable. Fortunately, there are several remedies to treat this common skin problem.

Step 1

Apply a high-quality exfoliating eye cream containing 1 percent glycolic acid under your eyes. Eye creams such as Elite Serum, Dermavexin, Renewal System Eye Cream and others include ingredients that are specific for the sensitive and delicate skin around your eyes. These creams work by gently exfoliating and hydrating the skin surrounding your eyes to firm and lift it. When used as directed, these creams can eliminate your eye wrinkles in about two to three months.

Step 2

Talk to a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon about laser resurfacing. This medical procedure involves the use of a carbon dioxide laser to precisely eliminate wrinkled skin, layer by layer. The skin under your eyes will heal in three to five days after the procedure. Laser resurfacing is not permanent, and you will need to return in two to three years for more treatments.

Step 3

Consider getting Botox injections to eliminate the wrinkles under your eyes. The technique is carried out by a cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist. It involves carefully injecting a small amount of inactivated botulinum toxin under your eyes to paralyze the muscles around the eye, smoothing out the wrinkles. The effects are immediate and will last eight to 10 months. You will need to return for another treatment when you notice the wrinkles reappearing.

Step 4

Apply sunscreen lotion under your eyes when undergoing any or all of the aforementioned treatments. Applying sunscreen lotion will prevent the formation of new wrinkles while moisturizing existing ones. Use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or above 30 minutes before going outside.
