Although potty training your 2 1/2-year-old daughter may seem like a never-ending battle, simple methods can get your child on the road to being successfully potty trained. The most important thing to note is that not all 2 1/2-year-old girls will be ready to potty train, and this is all right. Take your cues from your daughter. The journey to becoming potty trained may take quite a while, and staying consistent and patient will make the process more enjoyable for you and your child.
Step 1
Introduce a baby doll that wets to allow your daughter to "teach" the doll how to go potty. Give the doll water, and then go to your child's potty seat. Let your child pull down the doll's big-girl panties and help the doll go potty.
Step 2
Put big-girl panties on your daughter. Getting rid of diapers will help reinforce the need to go potty in the potty chair.
Step 3
Give your child plenty to drink, and let her munch on salty snacks to increase her thirst. The more your child drinks, the sooner she will need to go potty.
Step 4
Take your child to the potty at regular intervals so she has an opportunity to use the potty. Do not ask your daughter if she needs to go--just take her. This way, she does not have the opportunity to tell you that she does not want to go to the bathroom.
Step 5
Congratulate your daughter's success with a trinket or notation on a potty chart each time she uses the potty. A potty party is an enjoyable way to celebrate achieving this milestone.
