How to Find Inexpensive Walking Shoes

Walking shoes can be very expensive. If you can find them at a discount, you'll be able to replace them every 400 miles as suggested by walking professionals. Having good walking shoes will help protect your feet, shins and back from injury. Inexpensive walking shoes do not have to be of low quality. Depending on how hard you look, you may even be able to find some of the top-of-the-line walking shoes at a deep discount.

Step 1

Check the newspaper for weekly sales papers for your local shoe stores. If you find a shoe you like on sale, you can take the advertisement to the store's competitor and ask them to beat the sales price. This works in many stores even if it is not advertised.

Step 2

Locate outlet stores for your favorite brands. Many shoe makers have outlet stores and will offer deep discounts on their shoes. Check the website for additional coupons and take them with you. Many outlet stores will honor the coupons even if they are running a promotion.

Step 3

Compare shoe prices online. As with retail brick-and-mortar stores, some online retailers will be willing to beat the price of their competitors. There are many websites that offer coupon codes to reduce an online purchase price by up to as much as 60 percent.

Step 4

Shop at your local thrift store. Many big name retailers are now donating unsold merchandise to the local thrift store, which means you can find high-dollar shoes for very inexpensive prices. When shopping a thrift store, take note of when the store offers discounts to merchandise as this can lower your out-of-pocket price even more.

Step 5

Contact shoe manufacturers about testing their products. Many manufacturers still use people to test their products and will send you a test sample to try out and report back to them. This way you can try out the newest walking shoes for free.

Tips and Warnings

  • If the sales associate at a retail store will not meet a competitor's advertised price, do not hesitate to ask for management. More than likely the manager will not want to lose your business.
  • When shopping thrift stores, it is best to make sure the shoes you are purchasing have not been worn before. Shoes mold to the wearer's feet and should not be handed down.
