The skin is the biggest organ of the human body. It is important to take care of it, especially because it is usually the first thing someone sees. There are five basic skin types. The skin should be cleansed daily, especially the face, to maintain its health and vitality. Knowing what type of skin you have is very important to determine which skin care methods and products are right for you.

Normal Skin

As described on the website, 1stholistic, normal skin is the least problematic of skin types. Even with a minimum amount of care, it will look and stay healthy. Normal skin should be cleansed twice a day with a mild facial wash or baby soap. A mild toner, such as rose water, should be applied after cleansing. This is then followed by a light SPF moisturizer. Twice a week, a facial mask should be applied to increase circulation and smooth skin.

Dry Skin

According to the experts at Essortment, dry skin can feel tight and flake easily. Acne is not usually an issue with dry skin because there is no excess oil residing on the skin. To care for dry skin, a creamy cleanser should be used twice a day. This is to be followed by an alcohol-free toner. Moisturizing is very important for dry skin, so a good moisturizer should be used every day.

Oily Skin

Oily skin is typically shiny and prone to acne. As described on Essortment, oily skin attracts more dirt than other skin types. A cleansing bar is the ideal form of facial cleanser. A toner with alcohol should be applied next, followed by an oil-free moisturizer. No moisturizer is necessary in the teenage years when oil production is at its highest.

Combination Skin

Combination skin is the most common skin type. The T-zone is typically oily. This is the area between the eyebrows, down the nose and chin. The eye area, neck and cheeks are usually dry. A facial cleanser designed for combination skin is ideal. An astringent can be applied only to the T-zone. A light moisturizer should then be used on the dry areas of the face. Facial masks can be applied twice a week.

Sensitive Skin

Skin Care Guide says that sensitive skin is tight, reacts easily to products, and is more prone to redness, drying and irritation. Oil-free facial cleansers that are specifically designed for sensitive skin should be used. In addition, a moisturizer with UVA protection should be worn every day to minimize sun damage. All products used should be free of fragrance to prevent irritation.
