Selzentry is the brand name of the generic maraviroc. It is a prescription medicine used specifically in the treatment of infections brought about by HIV. Selzentry, according to the Mayo Clinic, retards the immune system's destructive action by preventing HIV from reproducing. Selzentry helps fight HIV and AIDS, but it is not a cure. Mental Side Effects
Selzentry has been known to produce both serious and non-serious mental side effects, according to the Mayo Clinic, including mental confusion. There also could be other unspecified changes in consciousness in some people. Side effects that should be temporary and are considered non-serious include feelings of discouragement, emptiness or sadness, irritability and a loss of pleasure or interest in things normally enjoyed. Trouble with concentration might also be experienced.
Pain
Pain or aches throughout your body may not immediately be associated with taking Selzentry, but they are some of the serious side effects possible from this medicine. Other related pain includes headaches, throat soreness, pain in the jaw, back or in the arms, pain, heaviness or discomfort in the chest, pain in the joints, neck pain and mouth pain. Stomach and head pain may have a sudden onset and be severe. Apart from pain, you also may experience sudden, severe bodily weakness specific to one side only. Weakness also may occur in your feet, legs, hands or arms. You should report any of these types of side effects to your physician immediately as you may require medical help.
Other Side Effects
More common serious side effects from Selzentry include chills, breathing difficulties and congestion of the nasal passages, a runny nose, inability to speak, ear congestion and facial pain, particularly near the cheekbones or eyes. Less common serious side effects, the Mayo Clinic reports, may include diarrhea, choking, a loss of the ability to control your bladder, vomiting and nausea. Indigestion, belching, motion difficulties and sores, spots or ulcers on the tongue, lips or inside your mouth are less serious side effects that could be experienced, as well.
