Workouts for Cellulite

There is no known cure for cellulite. According to Acefitness.org, cellulite is simply fat. Both women and men have connective tissue that separates fat into compartments. The compartments of men's fat are horizontal and criss-cross while the compartments of women's fat are honeycomb-shaped making it possible for fat to protrude. Women tend to store more fat around the hips and thighs. Workouts for the butt and thighs improve muscle tone in that area as well as improve circulation thus minimizing cellulite. Staying consistent with your workout program is important to achieve and maintain results.

Stadium Stairs

Running stadium stairs or bleachers is a great workout for targeting cellulite. The muscles of the backside and legs have to work to propel you from one step to the other. While running stairs, you increase your heart rate, burn calories and tighten the muscles of your lower body. Start out slow and build up time spent running stairs to target cellulite and decrease body fat.

Running Sprints

Sprinting on a track is another way to target stubborn dimples on the back of the legs. Sprinting is running at 80 percent of your maximum speed or faster and maintaining that speed for 10 to 30 seconds. Imagine the legs of an Olympic sprinter and you’ll have an idea of what you can achieve on the track with regular practice. Start out slow and build up your sprint distance over time. If you don’t have access to a track running on the treadmill or any straightaway will do.

Spinning®

Official Spinning® workouts on special stationary bicycles target muscles of the thigh and butt. The exercise burns fat by alternating periods of high and low intensity. Spin for 30 to 60 minutes to target fat and challenge the muscles of the lower body. A real bike ride won't hurt either. Challenge yourself by taking on steep hills.

Boot Camp

Boot camp workouts usually alternate periods of resistance training with periods of cardio. Since cellulite is the target, exercises like running, squats, and lunges are best because they focus the work on the lower body. Boot camp workouts have become popular in neighborhood parks and fitness facilities. There are also DVD boot camp workouts available that target cellulite and decrease overall body fat for a more toned appearance.
