Facial Exercises to Eliminate Facial Lines

The human face has nearly 100 muscles, and exercising those muscles helps keep them toned and strong, encouraging the skin to maintain a smooth surface. Adequate hydration and skin care also helps skin stay young and fresh looking, but in order to reduce the number of facial lines or wrinkles from appearing on your face as you age, individuals can perform a number of basic exercises to keep skin looking young and supple.

Mouth

Prevent wrinkles or lines from forming around the mouth by opening the mouth as wide as you can, feeling the stretch around the lips and into the cheeks. Now, stick out your tongue and make a circle motion with it, first clockwise and then counterclockwise. Do this exercise three to five times every day.

Chin and Neck

Reduce the appearance of wrinkles or lines on the chin and on the neck by lifting the face toward the ceiling. Hold that position for a second or two and then rotate the face until you can look over your right shoulder. Look back up toward the ceiling and then rotate the face until you can look over your left shoulder. This will help tone and strengthen all the muscles around the mouth and jaw, reducing sagging or wrinkling skin.

Eyes

Sit comfortably, facing a mirror if you wish. Open the eyes as wide as you can, lifting the eyebrows at the same time. Hold this position for a count of three and then relax. Perform this exercise between 10 and 20 times daily.

Cheeks

Prevent winkles along the sides of the face and cheeks by exercises the muscles between the eyes and the jawline. Inhale and hold a mouthful of air in your cheeks, puffing them out as much as you can. Then, try to push the air out of your cheeks with your fingers (but don't let the air out). This is a bit challenging at first, but as your cheek muscles grow stronger, you'll be able to press a little more firmly. Do this exercise five to 10 times a day.

Forehead

Prevent wrinkles around the eyebrows and forehead by relieving tension and stress that produces frowning and wrinkles. Several times a day, try pinching your eyebrows gently. Then, move the fingertips in a circular motion over the surface of the forehead, first in one direction and then the other. This increases circulation as well as invigorates the muscle and skin tissues, reducing the formation of wrinkles through gentle toning and massage.
