How to Fade Stretch Marks Fast

Stretch marks, also medically termed striae distensae, are a common skin complaint. They are the result of skin changes, often in the stomach area, that happen too fast. This can happen after sudden weight loss, sudden weight gain or pregnancy. When these changes occur, they produce streaks or lines in your skin that can be red, pink or purple. Aside from the stomach area, stretch marks are also commonly seen on the hips, thighs, buttocks and breasts. Luckily, techniques and medications can be applied to fade away stretch marks in the least amount of time.

Step 1

Use a glycolic peel kit such as L'Oréal ReNoviste Anti-Aging Glycolic Peel Kit or Boots No7 Glycolic Peel Kit, both of which can be purchased at any drugstore. These kits contain a potent chemical called glycolic acid which can penetrate deep into your skin to enhance collagen and elastin production. This thickens and tightens your skin and if used as directed, your stretch marks will disappear in one or two months.

Step 2

Massage shea butter into the areas of your skin with stretch marks, four or five times every day. Shea butter is a natural oil with the ability to penetrate into your skin, enhancing the production of collagen moisturizing and improving the elasticity of your skin. Everyday use of shea butter will fade the stretch marks in about one month.

Step 3

Use the prescription cream Tretinoin, which can effectively reduce the appearance of stretch marks. It is most effective on stretch marks that are new or enlarging such as right after giving birth. There are many side effects of this ointment including dryness, reddening, swelling and tenderness of skin, all of which lessen over time. Another major side effect of Tretinoin cream is sensitivity to the sun, so apply sunblock to your skin one hour before going outside.

Step 4

Consider undergoing microdermabrasion to fade away stretch marks. This procedure is performed by a dermatologist in a clinic or hospital. The dermatologist will apply crystals to the affected areas to polish the surface layer of your skin. A vacuum is then used to eliminate the crystals and skin cells, stimulating new skin growth. You may have to undergo a few sessions to permanently get rid of the stretch marks.
