Skin Care Products for Puberty

According to Streetdirectory.com, puberty causes a number of psychological and physical changes in children. During puberty, our hormones cause the oil production in our skin to increase. This greatly improves the chances for oily skin and acne. In fact, The American Academy of Dermatology says that the most common skin complaint for teenagers is acne. Luckily, there are products designed specifically for oily and acne prone skin, but are gentle enough to keep the skin moisturized.

Face Wash

Cetaphil or Neutrogena Acne Wash are great face washes for kids going through puberty. Both are dermatologist recommended. Cetaphil.com explains that their face wash is very gentle and will not clog pores. Its formula is developed to remove oil and dirt without irritating the skin. Neutrogena.com explains that their oil free acne wash contains salicylic acid to fight pimples. It is also non-comedogenic, so it won't clog pores and cause future acne.

Toners

As explained on Bestskincareproducts.org, facial toner is beneficial to people who have oily skin or wear a lot of makeup. It tightens pores, soothes skin and restores natural PH levels. Products that contain witch hazel are good astringents. T.N. Dickinson's Witch Hazel Astringent is a great toner for sensitive skin. It contains no perfumes, dyes or artificial ingredients. Neutrogena Oil-Free Stress Control Triple Action Toner is not only a toner, but contains salicylic acid to combat acne.

Acne Treatment

According to Discovery.com, products that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid are beneficial in the fight against acne. These products can help unclog pores, treat and prevent acne. There are several brands of acne medication that contain these products. Clean & Clear Persa-Gel 10 contains 10 percent benzoyl peroxide and can be used 1 to 3 times a day. Neutrogena Acne Eliminating Spot Gel has 2 percent salicylic acid and boasts that it can help get rid of pimples in 8 hours.

Moisturizers

Kidshealth.org says that all moisturizers should be non-comedogenic or non-acnegenic. This means that they will not clog pores and cause acne. Cetaphil SPF 50 Facial Moisturizer UVA/UVB Defense fits this specification perfectly. Not only is it non-comedogenic, but it contains UVA protection to prevent harmful effects of the sun. Clean & Clear Advantage Oil-Free Acne Moisturizer contains salicylic acid, but is still light weight and helps skin stay smooth and soft.

Skin Care Sets

There are several skin care sets available for purchase. According to their website, Neutrogena has the number 1 dermatologist recommended acne kit, Neutrogena Complete Acne Therapy System. This kit contains a salicylic acid facial cleanser, an acne treatment that contains benzoyl peroxide, and an oil-free SPF moisturizer. Another option is the Clearasil Ultra Solution Acne Treatment System. This set includes a face wash, toner, moisturizer and bonus spot treatment. Benzoyl peroxide is the active acne fighting ingredient in this system.
