Acne is a persistent skin condition in teenagers and adults. It is a term that is used to describe a disease of the skin in which the pores on the skin become clogged with oil. There can be many reasons why people develop this skin condition, ranging from stress, hormonal imbalance, diet and even the use of certain cosmetics. For some people, these blemishes can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. There are a variety of home remedies that can help with acne, and some of those useful remedies can include essential oils.
Chamomile
Chamomile oil is a common essential oil that many people use. Valerie Ann Worwood, author of "The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy," suggests that chamomile oil be used to help treat acne. This soothing oil is a good analgesic that has antibacterial and antiseptic properties, which can help acne. She further states that it can help balance skin oil, which can aid in reducing acne. Chamomile oil can also help repair and rejuvenate the skin tissues, which can help with skin redness that acne can create.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea Tree oil is one of the best acne fighters. It kills bacteria and is the first choice in treating acne. This is because the oil contains terpinen-4-ol, which can help kill bacteria. It also contains chemicals that are known as terpenoids. These chemicals provide the medicinal properties of tea tree. It can clear the skin up fast, as well as have a soothing effect. It is sometimes used as an alternative to benzoyl peroxide, an active ingredient in various over-the-counter acne treatments. It is best to dilute tea tree oil with a little aloe vera and apply to the skin twice daily.
Other Useful Oils
Rosewood oil can help prevent new pimples from developing. Lavender oil not only is soothing, it has antiseptic as well as antibacterial properties and helps prevent as well as sooth acne. Gill Farrer-Halls, author of "Essential Oil Bible," states that clary sage is useful when the acne is caused by hormonal imbalances. Lemon oil helps clear up acne, as do patchouli and eucalyptus oil. It is important to remember to use a carrier oil such as almond, jojoba or grape seed to help dilute the strength of the essential oil before blotting on the affected areas.
