Jenny Craig and LA Weight Loss are both diet programs that have been around for the last three decades. Both claim to have worked for millions of people. Jenny Craig and LA Weight Loss each offer healthy meal plans that are altered to the individual. Weight loss is likely with either company. There are some differences within the programs that might make one a better plan for clients' individual needs.
Support
Both Jenny Craig and LA Weight Loss provide their dieters with one on one support. Clients may work with Jenny Craig counselors at the center or may choose "Jenny Craig at Home," where they can speak to a counselor on the phone. LA Weight Loss has counselors that meet with clients in their centers. In addition, local events for support are held, like holiday snack exchanges, swapping healthy meals and open houses at their centers.
Philosophy
Jenny Craig has several different food plans based on individual needs; however, clients must purchase their meals. When a client is halfway through a weight loss goal, a counselor will help them transition to putting their own meals together. LA Weight Loss also personalizes a client's diet after a consultation between the client and counselor. Foods and snacks are available for clients to purchase, but optional on LA Weight Loss. LA Weight loss also provides their clients with recipes.
Cost
Both programs are rather vague about their costs, saying that the plans are individualized so the cost varies. Jenny Craig has an introductory price of $20 (plus the food cost) that offers clients a 20 pound weight loss. LA Weight Loss offers a free consultation during which they will tell their clients the exact price and offer finance options, if necessary. Also, with LA Weight Loss the client eliminates the cost of required food.
Advertising
Jenny Craig is loaded with paid celebrities on the program. Valerie Bertinelli did television and print ads showing off her large weight loss and how she kept it off. On the other hand, Kirstie Alley, a former Jenny Craig spokeswoman, could not keep the weight she lost from coming back. Jason Alexander also promoted Jenny Craig to give the program more interest from a man's prospective. LA Weight Loss does not have any celebrities touting their plan, but they do print and television advertising.
New Innovations
Jenny Craig introduced "Volumetrics Plus" to help clients actually eat more while dieting by adding a lot of low calorie foods. LA Weight Loss has introduced the "LA Plateau Breaker," a series of drinks to help dieters get back to losing weight when there has been weeks where they haven't lost weight despite following the diet plan.
