Skin Complexion Problems

The skin is the largest organ your body has. Being as large of an organ as the skin is, and being on the outside of the body vs. on the inside, even small problems with the skin can become very noticeable. Nowhere are these complexion problems more noticeable than on the face.

Acne

Acne is one of the most common skin complexion problems you can develop. Acne consists of blocked pores on the skin that become inflamed, and in some cases become infected or burst. Acne can occur for a variety of reasons including irregular skin shedding, the overproduction of sebum oil, inflammation and colonies of the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes. Acne can range in severity from simple black- or whiteheads (comedones) to infected acne cysts and nodules.

Rosacia

Rosacia is another common skin complexion problem. In fact, according to the National Rosacia Society, more than 14 million people in the United States struggle with this complexion issue. Rosacia is an inflammatory disorder that causes the production of chronic, small red pustules on the surface of the skin.

Wrinkles

Wrinkles are another common skin complexion issue. Wrinkles are a natural side effect of the aging process or spending too much time in the sun. Wrinkles occur as important proteins in your skin, called collagen and elastin, break down. This reduces the skin's abilities to stay tight against your face, resulting in fine lines and sagging skin.

Age Spots

Age spots are another common skin complexion problem that comes with age. Age spots, also known as liver spots, are flat circles of color on the skin that range from brown to grey or black. Age spots are caused by exposure to the sun and typically are not cause to worry; however, age spots sometimes look similar to skin cancer, so it is important to still have your doctor look at them to confirm they are benign.
