How to Get Rid of Sudden Acne Outbreaks

When the skin suddenly erupts in blemishes, it can be both painful and embarrassing, and you may feel desperate to eliminate the breakouts as quickly as possible. In order to do so, it is important to know which acne treatment products will clear up pimples the fastest without causing severe irritations, such as redness, itching, burning and peeling on the skin. Luckily, there are a few over-the-counter products that are known to eliminate acne breakouts fast.

Step 1

Wash the skin with a tea tree oil facial soap. Wet your skin thoroughly, then lather your hands well with a tea tree oil soap. Spread the lather gently onto your face, and use your finger tips to distribute the lather around your skin. Rinse off your skin well with water, and pat your face dry with a soft towel. Repeat up to two times per day.

Step 2

Apply a medium-strength benzoyl peroxide cream. Squeeze a pea-sized amount of 5 percent concentration benzoyl peroxide cream onto your finger tip, and gently apply the cream onto your face, avoiding the delicate eye area. Spread the cream around the skin, gently massaging it in until it has been completely absorbed. Repeat twice per day. Discontinue use if severe drying or redness occurs.

Step 3

Use calamine lotion as an overnight treatment to dry up the acne breakouts. Shake the bottle of calamine lotion well. Squirt a goodly amount of calamine lotion onto a cotton swab, and dab the calamine lotion directly onto the active acne breakouts. Allow the calamine lotion to completely dry. You can either leave the calamine lotion on overnight to dry up sudden acne breakouts, or rinse it off after one hour. Repeat up to five times per day, or once for an overnight application.

Tips and Warnings

  • Keep in mind that tea tree oil is a powerful antimicrobial oil that has been shown in studies conducted by the Department of Dermatology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital to be just as effective as benzoyl peroxide cream in eliminating acne breakouts. Using the low to mid-strength benzoyl peroxide cream will quickly eliminate acne breakouts without causing as much skin irritation as the higher strength benzoyl peroxide creams. Calamine lotion is typically used to dry up chicken pox blisters, but also works in the same way on acne pustules.
  • Avoid applying benzoyl peroxide cream to the area around your eyes. This can cause severe irritation and burning.
