Seroquel is a drug made by the pharmaceutical company AstraZenica. Seroquel is the brand name for the drug quetiapine, and is available by prescription only.

Indications

MedlinePlus reports that quetiapine (Seroquel) is prescribed for the treatment of the psychiatric disorder schizophrenia. It is also prescribed for the treatment of mania and depression that are associated with bipolar disorder.

Dosage

In its complete prescribing information for Seroquel, AstraZenica reports that Seroquel comes in the form of off-white or yellow tablets, and is available in doses from 25 mg to 400 mg.

Side Effects

Side effects associated with using Seroquel, according to AstraZenica, include headache, rapid heartbeat, pain (back and abdominal), dry mouth, constipation and vomiting.

Symptoms of Overdose

Symptoms of overdose, according to Medline, include drowsiness, dizziness, fainting and/or rapid heartbeat.

Warning

According to AstraZenica, death has been reported in elderly patients who experience dementia and are taking Seroquel. Thus, AstraZenica warns that Seroquel is not approved for treatment of dementia-related psychosis.
