Even people with the best hair occasionally have hair problems. Whether it is curly, straight or wavy, hair can get out of control and do the opposite of what you want it to do. Fortunately, there are solutions to almost all hair problems, but some of the information is conflicting or confusing. The key is knowing what you’re dealing with and what is at the root of the problem.

Flat or Fine Hair

People who have very fine hair, with thin hair shafts that lie flat on the head, complain of dull, lifeless hair. The best products for them are labeled with the word “volumizing.” A good volumizing hair product will have keratin or soy products that plump up the hair and create a healthy shine.

Split Ends

Split ends leave hair looking frizzy, flyaway and unhealthy. Hair that is riddled with split ends may be beyond the point of what any product can repair. The best solution to this problem is to have a good trim above where the split ends begin.

Dry or Static Hair

People with dry hair need to avoid washing their hair too often. This condition may cause static in the hair, making it cling in all the wrong places. Dry, static hair shouldn’t be washed more often than a couple of times per week and conditioned with a high quality conditioner each time. Every couple of weeks, a hot oil treatment will help bring back a glossy shine.

Frizzy Hair

People with curly hair or hair that is riddled with split ends may suffer from frizz. If the issue is split ends, have the hair trimmed frequently. For curly hair that becomes frizzy, use a high quality serum to add a smooth gloss to the hair and help get it under control. Avoid brushing the hair. Instead, use a wide tooth comb to remove tangles. Finger comb it for styling.

Greasy Hair

Hair that looks oily within a day of being washed, select a shampoo and conditioner for oily hair. Wash it more frequently—every other day or every day if needed.

Thinning Hair

Thinning hair can have many causes. Some women suffer from thinning hair when they experience hormonal changes. It may also be caused by overuse of chemicals or hairstyles where the hair is tugged and pulled. To decrease thinning, avoid using hair accessories, such as elastic or metal clips. If the problem persists, you may need to see a doctor to determine if there is a more serious problem.

Dandruff

The embarrassment from the flakiness of dandruff can send the sufferer into hiding. Several things may cause dandruff, including allergies, an extremely oily scalp and clogged pores on the scalp. A healthy diet and high quality products may improve the dandruff condition. In some cases, a shampoo designed specifically for dandruff control may be needed.
