A number of mid-priced anti-aging products minimize fine lines and wrinkles, fade age spots, and restore luster and vitality to dull, lifeless skin. While wrinkle creams like La Prairie's Cellular Cream Platinum Rare can cost as much as $650 for 30 ml., it's not necessary to spend that much to find an effective product.
Boot's No7 Protect and Perfect Intense Beauty Serum
Research published in the British Journal of Dermatology in 2009 found that Boot's No7 Protect and Perfect Intense Beauty Serum significantly improved the appearance of fine lines. University of Manchester Professor Chris Griffiths says the study of the product "is one of a few, or the first, on over-the-counter anti-aging products which were found to improve fine wrinkles in photoaged skin."
The active ingredient in the product, retinyl palmitate, is a Vitamin A derivative and is both effective and inexpensive. Dr. Doris Day, a New York dermatologist, says there are several products with similar ingredients that accomplish the same results. The Boots product sells at U.S. Target stores for around $20.
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti Wrinkle Cream
The National Institutes of Health published another study, also conducted at the University of Manchester, that showed that aged skin "is probably reparable by application of topical retinoids." Products containing retinoids, like retinyl palmitate and retinol, usually fall in the mid-price range, from about $12 to $30.
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream earns 4 1/2 stars out of 5 from over 65 reviewers at review site, Epinions.com. The product label claims it can "visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in one week, for healthier, younger-looking skin." Most reviewers agree. One even said it left her face feeling "like a baby's bottom." The cream, which contains the active ingredient, retinol, sells for around $13 at Wal-Mart.
Alpha Hydrox 12% AHA Souffle
The Mayo Clinic says that, in addition to products containing retinol, wrinkle creams that use hydroxy acids, potent, yet inexpensive exfoliators, as well as other wrinkle-reducing ingredients such as coenzyme Q10, copper peptides and green tea may help minimize fine lines and wrinkles due to sun damage.
Alpha Hydrox 12% AHA Souffle contains powerful alpha hydroxy acids to remove dead, sun-damaged skin cells plus peptides to plump up cells and improve skin's texture. It also contains green tea, a rich source of antioxidants that may help prevent further damage. It gets 4 1/2 out of 5 stars from over 300 users at Drugstore.com and sells for just over $15.
