How to Get Rid of My Acne

The sebaceous glands in the skin produce an oily substance known as sebum. The glands can become overactive during adolescence and produce enough sebum to clog the pores. Acne is a skin condition in which the clogged pores result in lesions on the surface of the skin. You can perform a variety of treatments to minimize the appearance of acne lesions and help them to heal more quickly.

Step 1

Allow your acne to heal naturally. Frequently, the best thing you can do to get rid of acne is to leave it alone. It's especially important to avoid picking or popping any of the pimples. This can create an open lesion on your skin which can scar if it doesn't heal properly. Ensure that your fingers are clean and fee of oil when you perform any treatments on your acne.

Step 2

Wash your skin with a mild liquid soap and a soft washcloth. Rub gently instead of scrubbing, and rinse your skin thoroughly with warm water. You can wash skin with acne up to twice a day, but excessive washing can irritate your acne unnecessarily.

Step 3

Apply acne medication that contains benzoyl peroxide. Bacteria that live in the pores of your skin can make acne worse when they begin to multiply. Benzoyl peroxide produces oxygen in the pores of your skin, which helps eradicate these bacteria because they prefer low amounts of oxygen.

Step 4

Abstain from makeup, when possible. The simple act of applying makeup can irritate acne and make it worse. The makeup will also cover the acne and prevent it from getting the open air that it needs to heal properly.

Step 5

Treat open sores. You can help open acne sores to heal more quickly by soaking it in salt water or vinegar. This will help prevent infections and allow the sores to heal more quickly.
