How to Get Rid of Wrinkles on the Face

As you age, your skin becomes thinner and loses its natural elasticity. Fine lines and wrinkles can appear as the skin becomes looser and sags more. These natural changes can cause wrinkles to appear on areas of the skin, including the face. Although it is natural to develop wrinkles, certain variables, such as smoking and sun exposure can contribute to premature facial wrinkles. There are at-home and in office treatments that you can consider to get rid of face wrinkles.

Step 1

Moisturize the skin on a daily basis. Slather on a moisturizing cream each day to combat wrinkles by hydrating the skin. Choose a cream with a built in sunscreen to prevent further sun damage. Select a sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher.

Step 2

Apply an anti-wrinkle cream to the face each evening. Choose versions that contain alpha hydroxy acids to combat wrinkles. Results may take several weeks to be noticeable since the ingredients need to penetrate the surface of the skin. Some product examples include Pond's Time Rewind Overnight Wrinkle Cream and Dermisa Anti-Wrinkle Cream.

Step 3

Receive a prescription from your doctor for a topical retinoid. Retinoids are derived from Vitamin A and can reduce fine lines found on the face. Retinoids prescribed include tretinoin and tazarotene. Potential side effects include redness, dryness and irritation.

Step 4

Speak to your doctor about in office cosmetic procedures used to combat wrinkles on the face. Injections of collage and Botox can be used every three to six months to smooth out lines on the face. With dermabrasion, a tool is used to sand down the skin in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. During laser resurfacing, a highly concentrated laser destroys the top layers of the skin to promote new skin growth. Multiple treatments for these procedures may be required to achieve optimal results. If you decide to get a face lift, excess fat and skin are removed to get rid of wrinkles.
