How to Fix Back Acne

Acne is a skin blemish that can affect anyone, but it most often plagues adolescents whose bodies are going through physical and hormonal changes. The development of acne on the back can be even more difficult to get rid of than acne on the face or other parts of the body for a number of reasons, most notably being that the back is usually covered with clothing that holds oil close to the body and perpetuates the existence of acne. Back acne can also be painful when sitting in chairs or laying down. But there are a number of things that you can do to get rid of the condition.

Step 1

Wash your body at least once daily using a mild body soap. Make sure to thoroughly scrub your skin to remove dead skin cells and oils that accumulate on the skin. A net sponge is an effective method of cleaning the back without agitating the acne.

Step 2

Rub a 2 percent salicylic acid cleanser into your skin after washing it. This acid will absorb leftover oils on your skin and dry out your skin.

Step 3

Wear loose-fitting clothes that let your skin breathe. If you become sweaty on your back, change shirts during the day to keep clean fabric on your skin. Tight-fitting clothes will keep your skin dirty and oily and make it easier for acne to grow.

Step 4

Apply a topical treatment of either benzoyl peroxide, sulfur, lactic acid or resorcinol to your back every night before bedtime.

Step 5

Visit a dermatologist to get prescription medications or antibiotics that will eliminate your back acne over time.
