Hair Growing Products for Men

Hair loss is a common problem for many men throughout the United States and the rest of the world. Hair loss can occur for a variety of reasons including genetics, stress, disease and natural aging. Although it is common to lose between 50 to 100 hairs each day, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, if you start to notice thinning areas or bald spots, you may want to consider using a hair growth treatment product.

Rogaine

Rogaine (minoxidil) is one of the most popular options for helping men regrow hair. According to the Mayo Clinic, the way Rogaine works to grow hair is not specifically known, but it is believed to help dilate blood vessels in the scalp. The additional blood supply helps improve the hair follicle's abilities to function and grow new hair. Rogaine is not to be used if the scalp is damaged or sunburned, as this may allow too much of the medication to absorb into the bloodstream.

Propecia

Propecia (finasteride) is another common option for helping men regrow their hair. Propecia works by limiting the production of an androgen called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body. Propecia does this by blocking testosterone from being converted into DHT. The presence of too much DHT in the system can cause the androgen to bind to hair follicles, causing it to deteriorate and the hair to fall out. Propecia is designed specifically for men and should not be used on women or children.

Corticosteroids

For hair loss due to inflammation from scalp disorders, such as psoriasis or eczema, corticosteroids may be used for treatment. Corticosteroids are injected directly into the scalp to help reduce inflammation. This reduces the stress on the hair follicles and helps them continue regular hair growth.
