As you age, the skin loses its elasticity and also becomes thinner. This natural change can cause wrinkles and fine lines to appear. The skin around the eyes may be the first area where you notice wrinkles and crow's feet starting to form. To prevent wrinkles from popping up around the eyes sooner than you anticipated, avoid sun exposure and smoking. While in the sun, apply sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher. If you already have wrinkles, there are ways to get rid of them.
Step 1
Keep your skin well hydrated. If your skin is dried out, the wrinkled appearance around your eyes will worsen. Use a daily moisturizer with built-in sun protection. Keep your skin supple by drinking six to eight glasses of water per day.
Step 2
Use a retinoid-based wrinkle treatment. Topical retinoids are derived from vitamin A and can reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles around the eyes. Keep in mind that side effects may include dryness, redness and irritation. An example of an over-the-counter wrinkle reduction product you can use is University Medical Wrinkle Free Eyes.
Step 3
Visit your doctor to go over procedures used to get rid of eye wrinkles. There are in-office procedures that can be done to get rid of your crow's feet. Injectable fillers, like collagen, can plump the area to smooth the skin, while Botox blocks muscle contractions to hide wrinkles. A chemical peel involves the application of an acidic solution to get rid of the dead skin cells and stimulate new skin growth. Laser therapy destroys the top layer of skin to encourage collagen production. Dermabrasion uses a rotating brush to sand down the skin to get new skin to grow. You may need multiple treatments for these procedures to be effective.
Step 4
Undergo a face lift. For longer-lasting results, you may want to consider surgery to get rid of eye wrinkles. In a face lift, the surgeon removes excess skin and fat to give the face a tighter and less-wrinkled appearance. Results typically last for five to 10 years. Side effects include bruising and swelling.
