Acne is an inflammatory condition that is caused by the pores of the skin becoming clogged with oils, sebum, bacteria and other impurities. While there are skin care products in stores that are designed to dry up and clear acne breakouts, they can often be too irritating on the skin, sometimes exacerbating acne breakouts. Luckily, acne can be cleared using a few skin care treatments that can be created at home using natural substances.
Step 1
Make a homemade facial scrub to remove dead skin and oils that could clog the pores. In a small bowl, combine 1 tbsp. of oats, 1 tbsp. of baking soda, and 2 tbsp. of honey. Spread the natural scrub onto moistened skin, and use your fingers to massage the scrub with circular motions. After two to three minutes, rinse off the scrub with warm water. Repeat once per day.
Step 2
Make a homemade facial toner to increase the skin's ability to slough off dead skin and to restore the skin's pH balance. Soak five to six cotton pads in concentrated lemon juice, which is high in Vitamin C and can increase the skin's ability to slough off dead skin cells. Place the cotton pads into your skin, and allow them to remain there for around 10 minutes. Remove the pads to let the skin naturally dry. Repeat once per day.
Step 3
Make a homemade facial mask to dry out acne breakouts and kill off acne-causing bacteria. In a small bowl, combine 1 tbsp. of French green clay and two drops of tea tree oil. Spread the mask onto your skin, and leave it there until the mask completely dries, which can take around five minutes. Rinse off the mask with warm water. Repeat once per week.
Tips and Warnings
- Keep in mind that baking soda is a naturally alkaline substance that can be used on the skin to remove dead skin and oils without causing irritation. Note that lemon juice is naturally high in Vitamin C, which increases the skin's ability to slough off dead skin, while supporting the skin in developing new skin cells. Tea tree oil is a natural oil that is extracted from the Australian Tea Tree plant, and is highly antibacterial and antimicrobial. Tea tree oil can be used to treat acne naturally, and makes an effective alternative to benzoyl peroxide cream, which can irritate and inflame the skin.
