How to Use Skin Care With Vitamin E & C During Pregnancy

Pregnancy can bring about a host of skin changes. From pregnancy glow to the mask of motherhood, increased hormone levels can play havoc on your skin. During pregnancy you may experience reddening of the skin, acne, broken capillaries and stretch marks. Using vitamins E and C in your daily skin care routine may help eliminate some of these problems. These vitamins can also prevent recurring skin conditions and new skin problems as your pregnancy progresses through all three trimesters.

Step 1

Massage vitamin E oil into the skin to help treat stretch marks. Vitamin E helps produce collagen. Collagen is what provides skin with elasticity and its enhanced ability to heal. This will promote collagen fiber production, healing the scar tissue from the rapid expansion of skin that occurs during pregnancy.

Step 2

Take 400 mg of vitamin E and 500 mg of vitamin C per day. This will treat the skin from the inside by repairing blood vessels and capillaries that have broken due to rapid weight increase. These vitamins are also antioxidants and can help relieve inflammation in the skin due to acne.

Step 3

Apply a vitamin E enriched moisturizer after skin cleansing to reduce the appearance of acne. During pregnancy, hormone levels increase, stimulating the skin's natural oil production. The excess oil can block pores along with dead skin cells and bacteria, causing acne. Vitamin E acts as an anti inflammatory, reducing acne swelling.

Tips and Warnings

  • Vitamin C in skincare is taken internally as it is useless once exposed to oxygen. Avoid vitamin C-enriched skin care products.
