How to Remove Acne Fast With Household Products

Acne blemishes occur due to the pores of the skin becoming blocked by oils and sebum, then becoming infected with bacteria. There are many different skin care products in stores that are touted to clear up acne, but most of these products contain chemical ingredients that are harsh and irritating on the skin. Fortunately, acne breakouts can be effectively eliminated by using a few household remedies that can clear the skin without causing irritation.

Step 1

Use baking soda to remove pore-clogging dead skin cells and bacteria. Pour 1 tbsp. of baking soda into a small bowl, and mix 1 tsp. of water into it. Use your fingers to spread the baking soda paste onto your skin, massaging it in gently for one to two minutes. Avoid scrubbing the baking soda into your skin to aggressively, which can scrape the skin. Rinse off the baking soda mixture with water, and repeat up to three times per week.

Step 2

Use lemon juice to balance the pH levels in the skin, which will help to balance out the skin's oil production. Soak five cotton pads with concentrated lemon juice, and place them onto your skin, focusing on the areas that contain the most breakouts. Place one cotton pad on your chin, one cotton pad onto each cheek and two cotton pads onto the forehead area. Allow the cotton pads to remain on your skin for at least 10 minutes, then remove them to let the skin air dry. Repeat up to three times per day.

Step 3

Use calamine lotion to dry up acne pustules and reduce redness on the skin. Shake a bottle of calamine lotion well to make sure that the ingredients are combined. Squeeze the calamine lotion onto a cotton swab or cotton ball. Dab the calamine lotion onto your acne breakouts, and let it dry onto the skin. You can either keep the lotion on your skin for at least five minutes to treat acne during the day, or leave it on overnight to dry up acne quickly. Repeat up to three times per day.

Tips and Warnings

  • Baking soda is a mildly abrasive, alkaline substance that can help slough off dead skin cells without scratching or damaging the surface of the skin. Calamine lotion, which is typically used to dry up blisters from chicken pox, is also useful in drying up acne breakouts without causing irritation.
