When Joseph Pilates began teaching his method of exercise, he called it Contrology. The goal of his work was to align, lengthen and strengthen the entire body. While Pilates' method is known for strengthening the core, it is also an invaluable tool in legwork. Many of the standing exercises are ballet-like in movement requiring concentration and control. Standing work is executed in 'Pilates V' with heels together and toes apart in a V formation. Always holding the body tall and abdominals tight, this position engages all of muscles in the lower body.
Actions
1. Stand in Pilates V, keeping the heels together and toes apart with good posture and alignment.
2. Plie by lowering the body down with heels in contact with the floor and feet in Pilates V.
3. Releve keeping heels together and lifting toward the ceiling, squeezing the inner thighs.
4. Advance by putting moves together, in a flowing manner Plie into Releve.
5. Try reversing, Releve' into Plie', and keeping your balance.
