The time and cost of going to a beauty spa can be more than you can afford. That doesn't mean you have to forgo looking your absolute best. Both men and women want to keep their youthful appearance and feel good about the way they look. Most of the treatments done at the spa can be done at home. In addition to saving the time and money, you'll have the advantage of knowing what is in the products you are using.
Face Masks for Oily Skin
Homemade face masks are simple to make. First, determine what type of skin you have, because the different ingredients will affect your skin in different ways. If you have oily skin, you can mix 1 tsp. of brewer's yeast into plain yogurt and apply it to the problem areas for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse well for a fresh face and youthful glow without the oil. Another blend that helps reduce the oil on the skin is an oatmeal face mask with 2 tsp. of oatmeal, 1 tsp. of baking soda and enough water to make a thick paste.
Face Masks for Dry Skin
For dry skin, mix 1 tsp. of olive oil with plain yogurt. Apply it to the face and leave it on for approximately 15 minutes. Wash your face with a mild cleanser, then moisturize. You can also use 1 tbsp. of avocado or mashed ripe banana in place of the olive oil for a slightly thicker mask.
Anti-Wrinkle Cream
If you don't have time to do a facial mask, dab on some wrinkle cream in the morning and at night. To decrease the appearance of lines and wrinkles and to add a healthy glow to your skin, use a homemade wrinkle cream. Combine 1 tbsp. of lanolin, 2 tsp. of almond or olive oil and 2 tsp. of cod liver oil. Blend the mixture and heat in a double boiler. Add 2 tsp. of water and remove it from the heat. After it cools, store it in a sealed bottle and refrigerate.
Nail Treatments
Apply a few drops of olive oil, vitamin E oil, almond oil or any other nut oil to your fingertips and massage it into the cuticles. Push your cuticles back with an orange or nail stick. File your nails to the desired shape. If you want to apply nail polish after the oil has been on your fingers for at least half an hour, wash with hand soap and clean the nails with alcohol to remove the oily residue.
Hair Conditioner
To give your hair a healthy shine, condition your damp hair with a large whipped egg before you shampoo it. Massage the egg into your hair and cover it with a plastic shower cap or plastic wrap. Keep the egg on your hair for approximately 30 minutes. Shampoo your hair as you normally would. To add more gloss to your hair, rinse it with a cup of warm beer. Leave the beer in your hair for about five minutes then rinse with clear warm water.
