How to Get Rid of an Acne Blemish Fast

Acne blemishes are characterized by the appearance of pustules, papules, cysts and nodules, typically inflamed and irritated. Because acne blemishes can make the skin appear blotchy and uneven, sufferers generally experience lower self-esteem. Clear acne blemishes quickly and effectively by removing pore clogging impurities, toning the skin with a solution high in vitamin C and applying an effective benzoyl peroxide cream.

Step 1

Scrub off dead skin cells that clog the pores using baking soda. Combine 1 tbsp. of baking soda and 1 tsp. of water in a small bowl, making a paste. Spread the baking soda paste onto moistened skin, and massage it in small circular motions using the fingers. After 1 to 2 minutes, rinse off the skin with water. Repeat once per day.

Step 2

Tone the skin with an alcohol-free astringent toner, which will tighten the pores and will helps remove excess oil, dirt, and impurities from the skin. Fill an empty spray bottle with 4 oz. of concentrated lemon juice, 1 oz. of aloe vera gel, and 1 oz. of witch hazel. Spray the skin liberally after it has been cleansed or scrubbed, and allow the skin to dry naturally. Repeat up to three times per day.

Step 3

Apply a 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide cream, which will release oxygen into the pores to kill off acne-causing bacteria. Squeeze a pea-sized amount of 2.5 percent benzoyl peroxide cream onto your finger, and gently spread the cream onto your skin until it has completely soaked in. Repeat twice per day.

Tips and Warnings

  • Sloughing off dead skin cells helps keep the pores clear so that they do not become clogged with oils, sebum, bacteria and impurities, thereby preventing future acne breakouts. Using a toner that contains high levels of vitamin C helps increase the skin cell turnover, meaning the dead skin cells are sloughed off more quickly, while the rate at which new skin cells developed are increased. This helps keep the pores free of impurities, thereby preventing acne. Benzoyl peroxide is one of the most effective and widely used acne treatment products and can be purchased in concentrations of 2.5 percent, 5 percent and 10 percent strengths. Using the lowest strength benzoyl peroxide cream will clear acne quickly, while avoiding harsh side effects that can happen when using the higher strength creams, such as peeling or burning.
