4 Ways to Identify Stress

1. Restless Nights and Loss of Sleep

Insomnia is a common symptom of stress, and an easy one to identify. If you find yourself awake an hour after going to bed, even if you're tired, then that's a good indication you're dealing with stress. In addition, recognize restlessness, or waking up repeatedly during the night, as a sign of stress.

2. Watch for Headaches and Backaches

Stress can cause headaches, neck aches and backaches, as well as other muscle aches throughout our body. Headaches often are a result of spinal misalignment. Frequent gym-going can cause aches and pains, but you should be able to recognize the difference between exercise soreness and pure tension pain.

3. Eating Disorders, Loss of Appetite and Upset Stomach

Loss of appetite, increased hunger or discomfort associated with eating are signs of stress. There are those who once enjoyed hearty meals but now find themselves only picking at their plates. Others may go the entire day without ever feeling hungry. Note any marked gain or loss of weight, and keep on the lookout for stomach ailments. A person may simply develop an upset stomach, but others may manifest ulcers as a result of stress.

4. Increased Anxiety and Quick Temper

A quick temper is not uncommon when under stress, because those who are stressed often suffer from a loss of control as a result of feeling overwhelmed or underutilized. Someone who is dealing with stress may not realize the effect he's having on others.
