Skin blemishes can appear on any type of skin, but most commonly occur on oily skin that overproduces skin oils and sebum. The excess oils and sebum become trapped in the pores, and infected with bacteria, resulting in acne breakouts. These unsightly breakouts can be both painful and embarrassing. Luckily, there are a few acne treatments that can help reduce skin blemishes by killing off acne-causing bacteria on the skin, removing dead skin and impurities that could clog the pores, and drying up acne pustules.
Step 1
Apply a natural antibacterial oil, such as tea tree oil. Fill a glass bottle with 8 oz. of water, and add 5 drops of tea tree oil. Shake the bottle to mix well. Pour 1 tbsp. of the diluted tea tree oil onto a cotton pad, and wipe it onto the areas of the skin affected by acne, allowing it to dry onto the skin. Repeat up to three times per day.
Step 2
Combine 1 tbsp. of ground oats, 2 tbsp. of honey, and 1 tbsp. of lemon juice in a small bowl. Spread the mixture onto your skin, and massage it in for three minutes. Wipe off the mixture into the bowl, and rinse off the skin with warm water. Repeat up to three times per week. This helps remove pore-clogging skin cells and bacteria.
Step 3
Apply calamine lotion to the active acne pustules to dry them out overnight. Squirt a goodly amount of calamine lotion onto the end of a cotton swab, and dab it onto the acne breakouts, covering them completely. Allow the lotion to dry, and leave it on overnight. Rinse off the calamine lotion in the morning with water. Repeat once per day.
Tips and Warnings
- The Department of Dermatology, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital claims that tea tree oil can be used as an alternative to benzoyl peroxide, which is known to cause skin irritations and can burn the skin. Applying a natural scrub to the skin helps remove dead skin and bacteria that could clog the pores and exacerbate acne breakouts. Avoid using harsh natural substances, such as ground peach pits or sand, which are too rough and can damage the skin. Calamine lotion is a naturally drying mineral that help treat acne. You can use it multiple times per day, and leave on for up to 10 hours without irritating the skin.
