How to Remove Ingrown Hairs on the Bikini Line

Ingrown hairs along your bikini line can be painful and unsightly when in a swimsuit. Usually, the result of careless shaving or waxing, ingrown hairs are hair that was cut too short, and then curls back to penetrate the skin, notes the University of Virginia. Because the skin on your bikini line is so sensitive, you should be extra careful when removing it; you could cause more irritation and redness when you remove ingrown hairs at the bikini line incorrectly.

Step 1

Apply a warm compress to the affected area. Running warm water from the faucet over a washcloth. Squeeze the excess water out and apply to the affected area for 30 seconds. This will help to soften the hair and open pores so that the ingrown hair is easier to remove.

Step 2

Sterilize a pair of tweezers by dropping them into a pot of boiling water for five minutes, removing and allowing to cool on a clean surface. This ensures that bacteria won't be spread, causing infection on your bikini line from the ingrown hairs.

Step 3

Find the loop where the ingrown hair has doubled back into the skin. Gently insert one end of the tweezers into that loop and lift. Avoid plucking out the hair, advises Oregon State University. Tug gently to remove the tip of the hair from the skin. Once it is released, let the tweezers go to avoid any further irritation on the sensitive skin.

Step 4

Apply an ice cube wrapped in a thin cloth to the area to stop any pain and help reduce swelling from removing the ingrown hair. Hold on the affected area until the pain subsides.

Step 5

Douse a cotton ball with witch hazel, and apply to the area. Witch which has antiseptic properties, to ward off infection, and can help tone down any redness, especially helpful if you want to show off your smooth bikini line in a bathing suit.
