Blemishes refer to a variety of skin conditions, including pimples, zits, dark circles and age spots. A good skin care regimen can be put in place to reduce the number of blemishes that appear on your face. Along with using products to clear the skin, eat a well rounded diet and drink plenty of water. A good diet is an important part of keeping your skin clear and healthy. If you suspect a particular product is causing your blemishes, discontinue use and switch to a new brand.
Step 1
Use a mild cleanser. Wash your face only twice a day to avoid drying out the skin. Remember to wash off any makeup at night before you go to bed. Avoid cleansers that contain any harsh chemicals, like alcohol. Neutrogena and Dove are examples of companies that make gentle facial cleansers.
Step 2
Keep your fingers away from your face to reduce the number of breakouts. Oil and dirt can be transferred to the face from your fingers. Remember to wash your hands before applying any makeup or skin care products. Keep your hair pulled away from your face as well.
Step 3
Choose oil-free makeup. Pick water-based cosmetic products and look for makeup brands labeled noncomedogenic. Get rid of any old makeup that could be causing blemishes to appear. Most makeup products should be discarded after six months.
Step 4
Apply sunblock. Apply sun protection while outdoors to reduce blemishes and skin irritation. Choose solutions with a SPF of 15 or higher.
Step 5
Select a blemish fighting topical solution. There are over-the-counter products that you can use to treat acne and prevent future breakouts. These solutions are available in creams, gels and lotions. Purchase versions that contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide as the active ingredients. Some brand examples include Oxy, Clearisil and Neutrogena.
