Many Americans deal with chronic skin conditions every day, and the rest of us have most likely experienced an acute case of dry skin. Beyond the treatment of skin issues, many women like to have lotion handy just to keep their hands and feet soft and comfortable. Dermatologists recommend lotions for some of the simplest to the most complex skin conditions giving us the benefit of a professional opinion without a costly visit to the doctor's office.

Cetaphil

The lotions made by Cetaphil are recommended by dermatologists and pediatricians alike. This brand of moisturizers was originally formulated by a team of dermatologists for the treatment of dry and sensitive skin. It has been recommended in cases of eczema in both adults and babies. Since it is free of fragrance and dyes, it is great for sensitive skin and those prone to allergic reactions. Cetaphil also offers an oil-free lotion that is best for normal to oily skin and contains an SPF.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion

Aveeno products have been recommended by dermatologists for more than 60 years. The Daily Moisturizing Lotion was awarded Best Body Lotion in the Women's Health 2009 Beauty Awards. The formula is not greasy and has been clinically proven to provide moisture to the skin for 24 hours. This lotion comes in two varieties, one with an SPF and one without.

Aveeno Baby Lotion

With natural colloidal oatmeal, the Daily Moisturizing formula is designed to heal the delicate skin of a baby. It absorbs quickly and is free of alcohols that can dry the skin. Aveeno formulated this moisturizer for the most delicate newborn skin by making it fragrance-free and hypoallergenic. Aveeno Calming Comfort Baby Lotion was listed among top choices for baby lotions in the October 2004 issue of "Baby Talk" magazine.

Eucerin

Dermatologists recommend Eucerin for daily skin care. It can relieve dry, cracked skin from cold, dry air, sun and wind. The Eucerin products are proven safe and non-irritating for sensitive skin. Using Eucerin's fragrance-free products on baby after a bath can help keep delicate skin soft and smooth while preventing irritation. Eczema can also be tamed with Eucerin products that rehydrate the skin and reduce itching.

Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion

Dermatologists explain how a shielding lotion not only provides temporary relief for dry skin, but also aid the skin in moisturizing itself. The Skin MD Natural brand is touted for its ability to aid in the care of eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis and other chronic skin conditions. According to Dr. Brian Zogg, the shielding lotion replaces the damaged outer layer of the skin to protect natural oils and moisture so that the skin can heal itself much quicker.
